I also was an Overseer, and I remember how warm and comfortable the home was. The meetings mixed social and business. I really looked forward to those winter meetings so I never minded the three-hour drive. For many years Jo Huntoon and I would make the Sunday drive together. This photo shows Jerry Savitz, President of the Northport Village Corporation, Jeannette Tardif, Clerk of the NVC, and Bill Paige, Village Agent. In the spring BHPS newsletter, I acknowledged many of the people who helped to make that celebration a tremendous success. I did, however, neglect to mention three very important members of our Centennial Committee. For that I apologize. Emily Stetser and her husband Bob (pictured) were crucial to the planning, organizing, publicity and implementation of all of the events of the summer, as was Sharon McCullough. Emily and Sharon started their work a full year before the events and were constantly involved with creating meaningful events and publicizing them. Emily created our calendar of events, including the graphics, and paid careful attention to every detail including get-togethers on her porch to hash out and celebrate all of the ideas. Bob was there throughout, supporting Emily and helping the rest of us to stay focused. Their contributions to the summer events were huge. Thank you to Bob and Emily and Sharon for your tireless, creative contributions to, and leadership of, our wonderful centennial experience!" 2016-06-03 Grad-of-the-Day Emily Sapoch, pictured here with her parents, John and Jamie. Her most recent owner has taken the restoration to the next level. In many respects, she is better than new after 55 years. Sold once again, she now is moored a short distance from our current boat. NWGCMA was chartered by the state legislature in 1873 and, by 1876, there were 278 canvas tents and 70 permanent cottages. Churches from the Penobscot River towns came for two weeks in August/September for a religious retreat. Initially they stayed in cottages--a curtain down the middle to separate men and women. Later, 'Society Cottages' were built, and men were (sometimes) on one floor and women on another. The attached image shows the location and back side of the Auditorium where the meetings were held. Previous to the Auditorium's construction in 1893, the meetings were held out of doors, with a covered speakers' stand." 2016-09-23 BINGO!, photographed by Steve Trenholm in the Northport Yacht Club in early August.2016-09-23 BINGO!, photographed by Steve Trenholm in the Northport Yacht Club in early August. 2016-09-26 Double Take, photographed by David Leaming. 2016-09-26 Double Take, photographed by David Leaming.
