8/14-17/14 (Thu-Sun)

Penobscot Bay Rendezvous (Rockland/Thomaston/Camden) The Penobscot Bay Rendezvous will once again be Maine's most exciting sail and powerboat regatta of the season. Super yachts, to classics to performance racers, passagemaking power cruisers, Picnic Boats and lobster yachts are invited to enter this celebration of boating and boatbuilding. Featuring daily races for sailboats and a Poker Run and Photo Pursuit events for powerboats, the participants will be hosted each night at a different exclusive venue. Lobster bakes, barbeques, dancing and fireworks are all a part of the ticket. Details at www.penobscotbayrendezvous.com.

Belfast Harbor Fest (Belfast) The waterfront comes alive with a unique display of talent and good old-fashioned competition. Right before your eyes, teams of two will be handcrafting a 12-foot wooden skiff. As the sawdust starts to settle, the teams will sprint their boats out onto the salty sea and then row to the finish line (or in one case last year, sinking) for all to see.  This is in addition to a Friday Night “Launch Party”, the Bug Run 5K road race along the waterfront, an open house at French & Webb, maritime exhibits, demonstrations and speakers, a blueberry pancake breakfast Saturday morning, children’s nautical activities, local vendors, a judged Classic Small Boat Show, live music and, of course, delicious food.  For more information, visit www.belfastharborfest.com.

Paranormal/Psychic Faire (Fort Knox State Park) Meet with people who believe in things unusual, including psychics, East Coast Ghost Trackers (ghost hunters), author Patricia Hughes (Ghostly Lost Treasure Tales of Maine), Loren Coleman (one of the world’s leading cryptozoologists), and Audrey Hewins (founder of Starborn Support and an identical twin alien abductee, also known as an Experiencer). Union Fair (Union Fairgrounds, Union) Classic, rural fair (one of the oldest in Maine), celebrating all aspects of agriculture, including a wild blueberry festival. Events include harness racing; old fashioned pig scramble; wild blueberry pie baking and eating contests; horse, oxen, and tractor pulls; fireworks; sheep shearing contest; 4-H exhibits; carnival; entertainment; and more. Fire Station Dedication in Memory of Bill Paige (Fire Station 2 on Bluff Road; 11 AM) There will be a dedication ceremony during which the Board of Overseers, along with the Northport Selectmen and the Northport Volunteer Fire Department, will dedicate the station in memory of William "Bill" Paige. Bill, who passed away last October, was the long-time Village Agent in Bayside, as well as the Chief of the NVFD from 1985 to 1996. Members of the community are urged to attend as we honor "Mr. Bayside."

Northport Yacht Club Fun Races for Kids and Open Potluck Supper (NYC Clubhouse; 4 PM, potluck about 5:30 PM) All kids 10 and over are welcome! Cookout/potluck immediately follows, at about 5:30 PM. Held Thursday afternoons throughout the season. 6th Maine Battery Cannon Firings (Fort Knox State Park; 10-4 PM) A full-scale Civil War-era Parrot cannon firing demonstration will take place throughout the day.
