27th Annual Trek Across Maine (Sunday River to Belfast) From the mountains of Sunday River to the sea in Belfast, Maine, enjoy the beautiful scenery as you ride 180 miles across the state in support of the mission of the American Lung Association. Overnight accommodations are provided at the University of Maine at Farmington and at Colby College in Waterville. The Trek Across Maine spans 180 miles across the state of Maine in support of the American Lung Association, starting at Sunday River Resort in Bethel on Friday and finishing in Belfast on Sunday. Overnight stops are provided at the University of Maine at Farmington and Colby College in Waterville. The Trek is a ride not a race. All experience levels are welcome! Pirate Festival (Fort Knox State Park; 10 AM-4 PM) Join the professional Pirates of the Dark Rose for a day of swashbuckling sword fights, duels, cannon fire and pirate ship attack. The pirate ship "Must Roos" will let loose cannon fire on the Fort as she sails the waters of the Penobscot River, in search of booty. The festival will feature a treasure hunt, pirate parade (all are encouraged to attend dressed in your best pirate attire), best dressed and most authentic sounding pirate contests. Regular Fort admission and a $3 per person event donation requested, because pirates love their gold! Those planning to spend the day may want to bring a lunch. Bayside Historical Preservation Society House Tour (1-5 PM) For the first time in many years, some of your neighbors have graciously offered to open their homes for a sponsored tour. Visit seven cottages and enjoy an exhibition of Dick Brockway’s models and birdhouses of various cottages on display at the Community Hall. Volunteers to act as guides in the individual cottages and at the Community Hall display of models are needed. Coastal Mountains Land Trust 3rd Annual “Run for the Hills” (Belfast Boathouse; 8 AM Start) Runners, take your mark… and walkers too! This dual event will offer a 10-kilometer race for runners and a 5-kilometer sponsored walk. Registration begins at 7:30 AM at Waterfall Arts, 256 High Street in Belfast. Beech Nut Open House (Beech Hill Preserve, Rockport) Beech Nut, the historic stone house on the summit of Beech Hill in Rockport, will be open to the public just two days per month during the summer. Coastal Mountains Land Trust, which owns and manages Beech Hill Preserve, completed restoration of the building from its foundation to its sod roof in November of 2007.
