United Farmers Market of Maine Grand Opening (18 Spring Street, Belfast; 9 AM-1 PM) Located at the former Mathews Brothers building, this year-round, permanent indoor farmers market will feature a wide variety of farm-fresh produce as well as local meats, fresh fish, artisanal cheeses, flowers & plants, prepared ethnic foods, coffee, baked goods, and also handmade craft wares, with 65 participants already signed up. Shoppers will be able to enjoy their purchases in the Bayview Room, a communal eating area overlooking the beautiful Belfast harbor. For more information, visit

Come Boating! Launch Day & Nautical Yard Sale (Boat Shed at the Belfast Public Landing; 9 AM-2 PM) Rain Date: May 28. Come Boating! kicks off its season, with refreshments and information about its free community rowing program. Trained coxswains will be on hand from 11 AM to 2 PM to take visitors out for a row on a 32-foot Cornish pilot gig. Also, the organization's annual "All Things Nautical" Yard Sale, with great deals on many items, will take place between 9 AM and 2 PM. All proceeds of the sale will benefit Come Boating!, which offers free community rowing throughout the summer and early fall. If you have any nautical equipment, boat accessories, life jackets, paddles, foul weather gear, nautical books, crafts, collectibles, art, charts, or small boats you'd like to contribute, please contact Carol Kuhn at 207-322-3090. Northport Municipal Election (Northport Town Hall; 8 AM-8 PM) Positions to be voted on are: one Selectman/Overseer of the Poor for a three-year term, one School Committee Member for a three-year term and Road Commissioner for a two-year term. Absentee ballots will be available at the Town Hall.  If you are in need of a ballot but are unable to pick one up in person, you may request one by calling the Town Office at 207-338-3819. Belfast Rail Trail 5K (Belfast; 9 AM) Celebrate the official opening of the Belfast Rail Trail on National Trails Day by participating in its first 5K! The race is a fun run, a walk, or a stroll. Dogs on leash and baby strollers are welcome. This out-and-back course is three miles long with the turnaround just before the trestle bridge. Start and finish are under the Route 1 bridge.
