Nordic Aquafarms Information

A Norwegian aquafarm company is planning a $150 million salmon farm on 40 acres in Belfast at Little River. The expected annual production capacity of the fully-built facility will equal roughly 8% of total U.S. salmon consumption. The project, which is expected to create 60 jobs, has raised concerns about the amount of potable water to be drawn from the Belfast Water District (1.7 million gallons/day) and the discharges to be made into the Penobscot Bay.
